There's hundreds of songs out there that mention LA. But theres only a couple that stick out to me. Not just because of how beautifually written they are, but because rather than glorfying this all-american land of entertaiment, they feel more like (some more obvious than others), as criticisms. Hearing them makes me not want to go there, in a weird way. Similar in the way you feel repulsed by the idea of heaven -- what's so good about LA anyway?
The song labelled "intro" is a snippet from the song "Drinking in LA" by Bran Van 3000. It's a staple from 1997. In this part, they anncuaite the L in LA like "hell", most written lyrics of this song listen the line as, "hell-a, LA". I put it at the start of the page because I feel like that simple sound encapsulates the whole idea, but of course there will be more.
while bran van did not explictly mean to make la sound bad with this song, rather detailing his expeirnce there, this pinnicale is downtempo and has a slightly eerie sound that feels dystopian. genius lyrics here.
